    Cormac McCarthy ameriški pisatelj in dramatik se je rodil leta 1933 v kraju Providence na Rhode Islandu. Danes živi v mestecu Tesuque v zvezni državi Nova Mehika. Prvi literarni uspeh je dosegel s kratkimi zgodbami, ki jih je objavil v študentskem časopisu, do vrhunca njegove kariere pa je moralo preteči še veliko let. Tako je za svoj šesti roman Vsi ti lepi konji (1992) prejel ameriško državno nagrado za književnost, Cesta mu je leta 2007 prinesla Pulitzerjevo nagrado, roman Ni dežela za starce pa je doživel izjemno uspešno filmsko adaptacijo. Revija Time je njegov roman Krvavi poldnevnik razglasila za enega najboljših stotih romanov v angleščini, objavljenih v letih 1925–2005. McCarthyja umeščajo ob bok velikim ameriškim avtorjem, kot so Philip Roth, Don DeLillo in Thomas Pynchon.
