Sellers has long been acknowledged as one of the screen's greatest comic actors. In this biography, Roger Lewis draws on over 300 interviews with Sellers's family, wives, mistresses, enemies and co-stars to show how he succeeded, and why it was at such a cost to himself and to those who he professed to love.

UK Kirkus review
The word chameleon could have been personally coined for the multi-faceted Peter Sellers. A master of comic versatility, he had an uncanny ability to fully immerse himself in every role he undertook but his professional skill came at the expense of a messy personal life where people apparently took second place to his own ambitious needs. His peripatetic, theatrical childhood was dominated by his doting mother Peg who encouraged the young Sellers to be egotistic; yet as an adult he was painfully aware of a fundamental deficit within his personality which made most achievement ultimately hollow. Paranoid, temperamental and utterly unpredictable, his life makes for compelling if chilling reading. Roger Lewis has been enthralled by Sellers since childhood, but his extensive biography has the virtues of being both highly readable and refreshingly candid: he clearly respects his gifted subject but retains no illusions about Sellers' frequent fallibility.
